Officially Kicking Off the 2014 Blog Year!

Posted on January 7, 2014

I’m finally setting aside the energy to begin my 2014 edition of blog posts. You have no idea what it took. No idea. And I may not tell you. I will say that in order to have a little fun with it, I’m going to make some statements as I generally do and anything that appears in parentheses after would be a bit more truthful depending on who you ask. It’s an attempt at whimsy…more or less to amuse myself. For example, if I said ‘what a piece of work (ass) is man. Mostly because some women are very delicate (sporadically psychotic).’ See? That amused me. Now, on with the rest of it.

Are any of you fans of the BBC series Sherlock? I finally got into the show early last year and it quickly became a favorite if not THE favorite. I’d have been seriously annoyed had I watched it when it first aired because it’s been two years since we’ve had new episodes. Well, the wait was over on New Year’s Day and the answer to the most baffling question ever posted on the series was answered. And after the second episode of Series 3, I’ve decided that I would have loved to have this version of Sherlock Holmes with Benedict Cumberbatch be the best man at my wedding.

The hubs and I also enjoyed Christmas episodes of Vicious (the writing on this episode was less run-of-the-mill) and Mrs. Brown’s Boys (the New Year’s episode was much funnier). The rest of the time was spent unpacking more boxes, sifting through things, discarding things, looking for things, and yapping at each other. Unpacking two households is not a fun thing to do. It’s not pleasant, it’s time consuming, and it’s not quick (it was shit). It also adds more stress to an already stressful season.

Dad, meanwhile, has had a trying week or two. We’re now entering a new phase of Alzheimer’s and I don’t have a clue what comes next. He hasn’t followed all the typical things at the typical times, so however he proceeds will be an interesting (sad) experience for us. His balance has been questionable (shit) and the snow hasn’t helped (double shit).

Ah, the snow. This year is the first year in twenty years that I’ve been reminded of the kinds of winters I used to have here in Michigan growing up. It still looks lovely. Shoveling it hasn’t been. In fact, shoveling it has been rather crap. I enjoy the exercise and I enjoy the steps it gives me for my FitBit, but dear God…the snow can stop now! I’m lucky I’m still conscious with the mountains of snow I’ve shoveled. Seriously, I’m going to have to start looking at putting it in the neighbor’s yard if we get anymore.

What else?

I’ve got quite a bit coming up this year. There’s OutlantaCon, DragonCon, the MotorCity Comicon, Detroit FanFare, a trip with Ralph to Dublin and London, the publication of Butt Ninjas From Hell with several other brilliant authors (more on that to come in the next couple of months), learning about podcasts, finishing Gaylias 2, heading down to visit Ralph at least once, hopefully heading to Palm Springs for their Pride Fest and doing something special with The Face Of Gay posts (more on that, too, in a month or so).

It’s going to be a busy year, especially with still getting the house settled. This is how unorganized we are; we apparently have two snow blowers in the garage. However, they haven’t been used in two years, I have no idea if we have gasoline for them, if they’re even operable or if we have the oil needed for the gas mixture. Now, based on the weather this winter, you can bet they’ll be ready for action next winter (when it won’t snow at all just to spite us). Isn’t that the way it works?

So there we are. The first blog post of the year has been kicked off and the journey begins. I don’t know where it’ll take us, what will happen or what will be said, but I know we’re going to have some laughs along the way. It helps dull the pain. Plus, if I can’t make fun of something, then it can’t be made fun of.

Welcome to 2014.

Well, my father is one more reason why I feel the need to write comedy to help me cope. Can’t complain about that. =)

Mo said it (almost clearly) I am happy to join you in two of those events (catastrophes) and I will say, because of this post (rambling), I watched the first two episodes of the season one of Sherlock. Please tell me they get more interesting (yawn). Hmph. I like the actors but they move a little slow (Boooorrrr…ing). I still think you should look up Fringe on Netflix and let me know what you think. I think they are produced at the same studio or something. They both end with that Bad Robot red guy. Anyway, I digress… so eight years of blogging heh? I can’t say that I can still even think of a monthly (yearly) topic, much less a topic twice a week that anyone worth their salt would be willing to read about, so why bother, I think. I will be enjoying (stalking) you, though as you lead us through your crazy (bullshit) life. Xoxo

Meet Kristoffer

Michigan-based author Kristoffer Gair wrote his first puppet play in 1st Grade and continued writing in one form or another from that point on. Much of it was crap, but there were tiny nuggets of potential mixed in with the likes of Pickle Pony Gets A Puzzle. He spent three of his years at Fraser High School performing in plays, then attended Grand Valley State University where he graduated with degrees in Film & Video and Creative Writing.
