OutlantaCon, MotorCity Comicon, DragonCon…Oh, My!

One of the highlights of being a G-list celebrity–not my term–is the privacy you’re given whenever doing public appearances. I mean, sure, those of you who hang with Dorien Grey know that he just has to walk into a bookstore and people flock to him. It probably doesn’t hurt that he wears a t-shirt with “The Man” with an arrow pointing up and “The Legend” with an arrow pointing down. One of my own favorite t-shirts is one with a cartoon face on it with “Fear my cuteness!” written below it. It doesn’t have the same power as Dorien’s. In fact, it kinda tends to make people puke. Well, it made one person puke. Author Patricia Logan puked, but then she’s a wench and that’s what wenches do around anyone representing the epitome of sublime innocence. But I digress. Let’s talk upcoming conventions!
First and foremost, after years of participating in conventions as an attendee, I’ll be partaking in my first one as an actual bona fide guest! I’m talking, of course, about OutlantaCon in Atlanta this upcoming May 4th-6th. For anyone in the Atlanta area who’ll be attending or anyone else not from the area who’ll be attending, please stop by my table! Author T.C. Blue will be there, too, and we’ll be signing books and causing some major catty excitement doing what we do best…er…signing books and causing major catty excitement. Yeah. Oh, and Ralph is planning on attending with me, too. If you’ve ever wanted to know just why he ever consented to marry me, well, you can ask him for yourself.
Moving right along, we have the MotorCity Comicon May 18th through the 20th. One of my best friends from college, Don Zomberg, always comes down with his girlfriend and we make a weekend out of it. Am looking forward to seeing Traci Lords again and having her sign a picture we took together a few years ago, plus meeting Dean Cain. I might just have to have him sign my copy of The Broken Hearts Club. Wonder how he feels about the film all these years later. Wonder what the look on his face will be. Wonder if he’ll show me the tattoo on his ankle. Wonder if I should visit him last just in case it doesn’t go well.
Finally, we have DragonCon at the end of August/beginning of September. Some friends from NYC will be attending for their first time, so I’m looking forward to introducing the place to the next generation of attendees! I also just found out that Anthony Michael Hall has been added as a guest. This means I’ll finally be able to crack open my wrapped Breakfast Club poster and get my first signature. I imagine he’s probably tired of signing items from a project so early on in his career, but I’m willing to take that chance considering the film’s sentimental value in my life. Maybe I’ll even snag a pick with him. Cary Elwes is attending, too. Any Princess Bride or Saw fans out there? Ooh, and Kathy Najimy!
Yup. Going to be a busy year. And somewhere in all of this, the hubby and I need to work in a honeymoon. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention the Detroit FanFare Con in Detroit in late September. Okay, and I need to finish the new book. Yeah…maybe I should just get started. As you were and I’ll see you on Thursday!
Until then, anybody else attending any conventions?

To be mentioned in the same blog as Dean Cain and Carey Elwes gives me a mild case of the Vapors, and I am once more in your debt. And I can now add your peripateticism to my “Things I envy about Kris” list.
Sigh.
